For Oshrat Asayad, hotels are more than just places to stay.
They are at the center of connection, innovation, and culture in Israel for Olim, Israelis, and travelers from all over the world. Oshart started her journey in hospitality as a waitress in a dining room after the army. “It was meant to be just a temporary job, but I fell in love with everything about the hotel industry—the service, the people, the guests who returned year after year. It became a passion” said Oshrat.
Over two decades, Oshrat has climbed the ranks of the hotel world, learning the ins and outs of every department, from reception to management. Today, she works as the Revenue Director for Africa Israel Hotels, a position where she balances Israel’s market trends with a guest-focused approach.
“You touch a few worlds at a time in this job,” Oshrat explained. “It’s about connecting the dots between data, guests, and all the departments of the hotel. It’s challenging but incredibly rewarding.”
“We’re the Faces of Israel”
As a leader in the hospitality industry, Oshrat sees hotels as more than just businesses—they’re ambassadors of Israel to the world.
“For many guests, the hotel is their first introduction to Israel,” she explained. “We’re the faces of Israel. How they’re welcomed, how they’re treated, and the memories they leave with all come back to us. It’s a huge responsibility.”
This sense of responsibility extends to Olim (immigrants) and English speakers who rely on Africa Israel Hotels as their first touchpoint in the country. “For many, it’s the first door they’ll enter when beginning their new life in Israel,” Oshrat said. “We’re here to provide stability, support, and a welcoming face as they transition to a new home.”
Many of the chain’s hotels are strategically located near essential government facilities, such as population offices, to help streamline the immigration process. “We choose locations that make life easier for new arrivals,” Oshrat explained. “It’s not just about convenience for tourists; it’s about creating an experience that helps Olim feel at home.”
“Boutique Hotels Embody the Vibrant Spirit of Tel Aviv”
Africa Israel Hotels operates a range of properties across Israel, each with its own individual identity. From the iconic Crowne Plaza to the boutique Polly and Indigo brands, these hotels offer diverse experiences tailored to their locations. The Indigo brand, part of the IHG network, reflects a unique vision of connecting guests to the local community.
“For the Indigo brand, the goal is to bring the neighborhood into the hotel,” Oshrat explained. “For example, Indigo in Bursa incorporates design elements inspired by the area’s bars and shops, offering guests a taste of the local vibe.” This approach allows visitors and Olim to immerse themselves in Israel’s culture, both within and beyond the hotel.
The Polly hotels, like Polyhouse near the Carmel Market and Polyurban, bring a youthful, trend-driven energy. “These boutique hotels embody the vibrant spirit of Tel Aviv,” Oshrat shared. “From rooftop bars to market-inspired cocktails, they create unique and memorable experiences for every guest.”
“Sustainability is at the Core of What We Do”
Africa Israel Hotels is also leading the charge toward greener hospitality. The Vert brand, known for its eco-friendly focus, is transforming the company’s approach to sustainability.
“Our goal is to make all of our hotels green,” Oshrat said. “At Polyurban, for instance, everything is designed with sustainability in mind—from solar energy to digital systems that eliminate plastic waste. Even the lights and fridges are eco-friendly.”
This commitment to green practices reshapes the guest experience while aligning with global environmental standards. “Sustainability isn’t just a trend for us,” Oshrat explained. “It’s our responsibility to future generations.”
“Helping Guests Find a Sense of Home”
“We had guests who had lost everything” after October 7th. Oshrat shared stories of how Africa Israel Hotels has supported guests during wartime in Israel, including Olim and displaced families from the north and south. “Seeing our teams go above and beyond to make them feel cared for—it was deeply moving. We’re not just providing rooms; we’re offering a sense of home.”
For English-speaking immigrants, the chain’s connection to the IHG network ensures international standards of service, making the transition to life in Israel smoother. Oshrat emphasized how the team works closely with guests to address their unique needs, from arranging personalized accommodations to helping families adjust while staying at the hotels.
“Every interaction is an opportunity to help someone feel like they belong,” she shared. “Whether it’s through small gestures or solving bigger challenges, we’re here to support them during their stay.”
“Every Challenge Is an Opportunity”
Reflecting on her career, Oshrat mentioned the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry. “In a country like Israel, nothing is static. You have to be ready to adapt, to think outside the box,” she said. “But that’s also what makes it exciting. Every day is an opportunity to learn and grow.”
Looking to the future, Oshrat envisions Africa Israel Hotels continuing to lead in innovation and sustainability while deepening its connections with communities across Israel. “At the end of the day, it’s about people,” she said. “Whether it’s a tourist experiencing Israel for the first time, an Oleh finding their footing, or a family seeking refuge, we have the privilege of making their journey unforgettable.”
