Abraham Tours isn’t just about sightseeing; it’s about exploring the heart of Israel, understanding its diverse narratives, and connecting with its people on a meaningful level. Whether you’re a tourist or an Oleh, their unique approach to touring provides an immersive way to truly experience Israeli culture and history.
Rotem, the general manager of Abraham Tours, described the company as a key part of a larger one that includes Hostels located in Tel Aviv, Eilat, and the Philippines.
“Abraham Tours offers daily tours across Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan,” she explained. The tours are designed not only to showcase the beauty of these places but also to foster social connections among travelers. “You enlist in a tour, never knowing the composition of the group, creating opportunities to meet people from all over the world.”
Curious about what makes Abraham Tours unique compared to other tour companies in Israel, I asked Rotem to elaborate. She shared, “Our emphasis is on showing different narratives. For instance, if we have a tour in Nazareth, the tour guide will be a local from Nazareth. We ensure the communities themselves speak for their stories.” This allows visitors to hear firsthand accounts and better understand Israel’s complex social landscape.
Rotem’s personal journey with Abraham Tours began six years ago as a reception manager at the Tel Aviv Hostel. With a background in tourism, she quickly moved up the ranks and is now the general manager of Abraham Tours. When asked what she enjoys most about her job, she said, “Tourism is a bug. It’s dynamic; you meet people from all over the world, and you get to introduce them to the diverse cultures within Israel. Seeing people leave with an impactful experience is incredibly rewarding.”
Discussing the specific offerings for Olim, Rotem mentioned that their tours cater to everyone, including Olim.
“We offer both regular and private tours, providing Olim a chance to meet locals and other tourists. Our hostels also serve as community hubs where Olim can connect with others from their home countries or meet local Israelis.”
Reflecting on the feedback they receive, Rotem shared that Jerusalem’s Holy City tour always leaves a lasting impact on visitors and Olim alike. “In four hours, you visit some of the most sacred sites for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It’s a mentally and emotionally unique experience.”
When I asked Rotem for her advice to those considering exploring Israel, she emphasized the importance of firsthand experience. “First of all, come. Despite what you hear in the news, Israel is safe. The people here are warm and hospitable. We need people to see the real Israel and not just aspects shown in the media.
“When making Aliyah, it’s crucial to be a tourist first. Explore Israel, enjoy its beauty, and experience its culture before diving into the bureaucracy. This helps you connect more deeply with the country and find your place within it.”
My conversation with Rotem highlighted the role Abraham Tours plays in helping both tourists and Olim connect with Israel on a deeper level. Visitors don’t just see Israel through their innovative and immersive tours—they experience it. They meet its people, hear their stories, and walk away with an understanding of the land and its complexities. Abraham Tours bridges gaps and builds connections, making every journey through Israel an unforgettable adventure. By offering such meaningful experiences, they enable visitors and Olim to truly feel the essence of Israel and forge lasting memories that go beyond the typical tourist experience.
